Earth Day at the Art Garden 2015
The Laurel Art Garden has been supported by the local community and The Laurel Village Association for over 9+ years.
These are pictures of some of the activities that occurred over three hours last Saturday, April 18th, from 9-12 noon and beyond. There was also media coverage that morning. We were featured by Joseph Huerta from Channel 2/Fox News as part of the community service for that day. The interview was shown later that day and on Sunday morning.
Our volunteers included our board of directors–Susan Ma (pictured with the snail below), Amy Stabler, Renais Winter, and Jo-Ann Maggiora Donivan. Our newest volunteers to the team are Emilia Sanchez, Lilyana Sanchez, Maleni Sanchez, and Itzel Sanchez. Other team members were Mike Fernandez, Betsy Littell and A. Mason. All of these people had other options to work elsewhere that day but chose our “garden” because it’s mission is very close to their hearts.
Or newest sculpture and signage were both made by John Donivan. We now have a new landscaping plan done for us by Patricia St. John APLD, landscaper & professor up at Merritt College. We met her Earth Day last year and she has volunteered many hours, at no charge, to help us develop plans for this “garden” which has no local water source beyond fog, drizzle and occasional rain.
